Packed Payment Detector

Is something hiding in your monthly payment?

Put in the numbers from your worksheet and the payment they quoted. This rebuilds the payment those numbers actually support and shows you the difference. Free, no account, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

The price

My worksheet shows

Selling price$42,500

Rebates & money down

Cash-back or bonus cash from the manufacturer. Enter it only if your worksheet lists it apart from the dealer discount.

Taxes & fees financed

Sales tax, title, tag, registration. Leaving this at $0 makes any payment look more packed than it is.

Doc fee, electronic filing, dealer prep — anything with a fee on it.

Dealer add-ons & upsells

Optional products offered in the finance office. Leave a line blank if it isn’t on your deal.

What to say at the desk

The payment carries more than these numbers explain. Ask for the itemization before anything else.

  • "Can I see the itemized buyer's order, with every line listed?"
  • "My numbers come out to a lower payment. What's the difference made up of?"
  • "Which of these are optional, and what is the price with each one removed?"
  • Common extras that get folded into a payment without being listed: a service contract, GAP, appearance protection, tire & wheel or key coverage, theft etch or nitrogen.

The next step

This tool says something is in there. DrivrShield AI says what.

The math can prove a payment carries more than your figures explain. It cannot see the line items. Photograph the worksheet and DrivrShield AI reads every line — what each fee is, which ones your state actually requires, which are the dealer's to remove, and the exact words to ask.

  • Photograph a worksheet and get it line by line
  • Live recall and vehicle-history checks
  • Any car question answered, any time

Questions people ask

What is a packed payment?

A quoted monthly payment with more inside it than the price, rate and term account for. The extra usually pays for products added to the deal — a service contract, GAP, paint or fabric protection, tire and wheel coverage — that were never named out loud. The payment sounds reasonable, so the line items are never discussed.

Why do dealers quote payments instead of prices?

A payment is one number and a deal is dozens. Negotiating the payment lets price, trade value, rate, term and add-ons all move at once, and a change in any of them can be hidden by a change in another. Asking for the itemized figures puts each one back on its own line.

What should I ask for before signing?

The itemized buyer's order for a purchase, or the lease worksheet with cap cost, residual and money factor for a lease. Every optional product should be listed with its own price and its own signature, and you can ask what the numbers look like with any of them removed.

What if the dealer won't tell me the rate?

Switch the rate question to “They didn’t say”. The tool solves for the highest rate your quoted payment could be carrying, then compares it with the published average for your credit tier from Experian's State of the Automotive Finance Market. Those are averages across all lenders, not offers, and the figure is a ceiling: if something else is packed into the payment, the real rate is lower and the difference is that extra money instead. Either way it gives you a number to ask about.

How does the lease check work?

It rebuilds the payment from the adjusted cap cost, the residual, the money factor and the tax on each payment, then runs the quoted payment backwards to show how much cap cost that payment really supports. The difference between the two is money in the lease the worksheet has not named.

Fine print

This tool covers ordinary loans and leases, not balloon financing. It is math, not financial advice. It cannot see what is inside a payment — only that the payment carries more than the numbers you entered explain, which is a reason to ask, not proof of anything. For the real answer, ask for the itemized buyer’s order, or the lease worksheet with the cap cost, residual and money factor itemized. Everything you type stays in this browser: there is no account, no server call, and nothing is stored.
