What it is
Florida law does not set a dollar cap on a dealer’s documentation, processing, handling, or predelivery service fee. Florida Statutes §501.976 makes it an unfair or deceptive practice for a dealer to charge for any predelivery service without printing this disclosure on documents that include a predelivery-service line item: “This charge represents costs and profit to the dealer for items such as inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting vehicles, and preparing documents related to the sale.” Advertised prices must include mandatory dealer fees such as the dealer preparation charge (§501.976(16)), and a dealer may not charge for manufacturer-reimbursed predelivery work (§501.976(17)). FLHSMV’s consumer guidance states dealers may charge only the actual amount of fees paid for tax, tag, and title transfer, and that any processing or handling fee must be disclosed separately. Because the fee is dealer-set and uncapped, it is effectively part of the negotiated out-the-door price.
