The best outdoor accessory is the one you still appreciate after the photograph. Ford’s new Mustang Mach-E Trail gives that idea a fairly practical shape: extra ride height, all-weather hardware and power for smaller pieces of gear. There is useful news beneath the scenery.
A package with a job to do
Announced October 22, Trail is a factory package for the 2027 Select eAWD. Ford lists it at $2,295. It adds a modest suspension lift and uses the Rally’s steering rack, 19-inch wheels and Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires. The emphasis is the road to your destination: gravel, dirt and changing weather.
That description gives the package a sensible brief. Choose it around the routes you actually drive, then ask the dealer to explain the limits of the exact vehicle. A dramatic photograph is an invitation to look closer, rather than a substitute for checking clearance and tire suitability.
The socket may be the best conversation starter
Trail includes 400W Pro Power Onboard, with outlets in the cargo area and behind the center console. Ford’s 2027 panel also shows the darker front fascia, bodyside graphics and console branding.
Our practical test would begin with the gear list. Read the continuous and starting-power requirements on the pump, lights or other equipment you intend to bring; having a socket does not establish that every appliance will work. Then check how your luggage fits around it. A useful campsite feature should survive contact with an actual campsite.
A bigger battery is not a published range rating
The broader 2027 lineup gets extended-range batteries as standard. Ford lists 88 kWh usable for Select and Premium, and 91 kWh for GT and Rally. Final EPA range is still to come. The announced $39,995 starting price is for Select RWD before destination and other charges, not an all-in Trail quote.
If BlueCruise is on your list, Ford says Trail’s required hardware must be selected when ordering and cannot be added later. Its driver-monitoring requirements and service terms deserve a separate read; hands-free highway assistance still requires your attention.

Our take: outdoor equipment should earn its space
We like the idea of a modestly raised, all-weather EV with useful power outlets. The most persuasive design detail here is something you can use after parking. The darker trim can be enjoyable too; it should not be the only reason the package makes your shortlist.
We have not driven Trail. Before paying for the look, compare the complete Select eAWD-plus-Trail quote with the alternatives, try the cabin and plan the charging for your trips. Ford expects Trail arrivals in Q1 2027. A dealer order now and a vehicle available to collect are different stages of the story.
Price the exact Select eAWD build with Trail and the equipment you want. The entry-level RWD price is a different configuration.
